“On The Wing” celebrates birds as symbols of wonderment, freedom, adaptability, and the creative spirit, along with illustrating the ways in which the artists have drawn inspiration from them and the natural world they inhabit. This sixty-minute presentation features twelve original songs written by composer Andrew List and performed by celebrated musicians Krista River, mezzo-soprano, and George Lopez, pianist. Poet Mary Pinard, who also collaborated on the song cycle, reads additional original poems about birds. Wayne Petersen, Director of Mass Audubon’s Important Bird Areas (IBA) Program, provides expert background and commentary on bird behavior. Following the performance, the participants entertain a Question and Answer period moderated by Ray Brown from WGBH/WCRB.

“On the Wing” explores numerous topics about birds, including their traits, vocalizations, migrations, environments, vanishing species, as well as addressing the themes of conservation, ecological stewardship, and species preservation.
